A spokesman from the PHS principal's office recently announced the list of honor graduates for the 1973 school year. The "top ten" graduates include Dan Fincher (4.00), Richard McGough (4.00), Jeff Watson (4.00), John McWilliams (3.95), Danny Stewart (3.82), Vicki Henry (3.71), Herman Brown (3.71), Dwain East (3.62), Anne Morehead (3.57), and Larry Inscore (3.54).
The other fourteen honor students are Nancy Cornelius (3.46), Angela Payne (3.39), Kris Wesson (3.35), LaVetta Stinson (3.30), Linda Christopher (3.35), Dwayne Daniels (3.27), Richard Deaton (3.25), Joan Barton (3.25), Joey Waddle (3.21), Donita Hale (3.16), Monica Woodle (3.30), Gary Lyons (3.30), Donna Avery (3.08), and Betty Oglesby (3.04).
The top ten honor grads are saluted this week in the Bank of Prescott ad on page 2.
Potlatch Forests Foundation has awarded to Danny Alvin Stewart a $300 Scholastic Scholarship to the college of his choice for the year 1973-74. Danny plans to attend Arkansas State University at Jonesboro.
The scholarship was presented to Danny by Thomas Reeves of Potlatch at the Annual Awards Ceremony held at the High School Gymnasium. Danny has had an outstanding year at Prescott High School and finished as one of the top ten graduates.
Also announced at the Awards Ceremony were the scholarships that have been renewed for previous graduates of Prescott High School. The renewed scholarships are Lyndia Amelia Giles who will be a Senior at Baylor University, Susan Hilderbrand who will be a Junior at Henderson State College and Robert James McGough who will be a Senior at Southern State College at Magnolia.
We at Potlatch commend the above named students for their continuing outstanding effort and dedication.
Terry Spearman has been selected to play on the West All-Star Football game to be held in Little Rock August 11 as announced by the President of the Arkansas High School Coaches Association, Johnny Widner.
The Seniors of 1973 presented their Class Day ceremonies "A New Sight" to the PHS students, May 14. Starting the program was LaVetta Stintson (as printed, actually Stinson) and Linda Christopher reading the history of the class. As each student was announced he would enter and be seated. Next President Scott Smyth gave a welcoming speech to all the students. Sammy Graham and Nancy Cornelius presented the topics to be talked about in the program and who would read each one of them. Kris Wesson stood and led the class in "I Can See Clearly Now", with music provided by Dwain East, John McWilliams, Jeff Watson, Dan Fincher. The wills, made by the students, were read next by Joan McKinnon and Gwen Gulley. "I Can See" (as printed, actually "Now We See"), the Class Poem, was written and read by Sandy Graham. The prophecies were read next by Dwain East and Debbie Butler. The closing of the assembly was given by Vicki Henry. Then everyone stood and sang the Alma Mater led by Donna Avery and Terry Spearman.
Angela Payne and Terry Spearman were selected by the PHS student body as Mr. and Miss PHS Ideal.
Angela participated in many school activities. Among these are being a three year featured twirler, Miss PHS of 1971, and a three year letterman in basketball. Although Angela is very busy, she enjoys swimming, skiing, and playing the piano. This fall, she is looking forward to her new position as featured twirler for Ouachita Baptist University.
Terry has also been involved in many PHS activities. He received All-District and All- State this year in football, and has been asked to play in the All-Star football game at Little Rock in August. Besides football, Terry has been a member of the basketball and track teams, winning many honors in each. Terry plans to attend Southern State College this fall and play football.
